It puts a smile on my face to see that someone is asking for clarification instead of drawing a false assumption about that for once :D If they were installed to GA Data, they would, and you'd end up with Darkspore part models and textures for both the unmodded parts and their Darkspore-textured counterparts. That way they don't override any base game files.
